Playmore vs ClubSpark
ClubSpark is the default for many UK tennis clubs because the LTA funds it for registered venues. Playmore is built around paid court time: prepayment, passes, leagues and revenue analytics. Here is how they compare, based on ClubSpark's and the LTA's published terms.
court hire is your main business — padel, squash or pay-and-play tennis — and you want prepayment on every booking, passes, leagues and open games, and reporting built around revenue per court hour.
you are a members' tennis club registered with the LTA (or another federation that funds it), most of your income is annual membership, and you want the federation-backed tools at no subscription cost.
Side by side
| Playmore | ClubSpark | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Club management and booking software with a player app (iOS, Android, web). | Booking and club management platform run by Clubspark Group Ltd, used by national federations. |
| Subscription | From €199 a month; plans by number of courts on our pricing page. | Free for LTA-registered venues (also funded by Tennis NZ and Tennis Canada). Otherwise £15, £30 or £75 a month on a 12-month contract. |
| Fees on payments | Set out in your offer before you sign. | Paid plans: 1.4% + 5p (Basic, Standard) or 1.1% (Premium) per transaction, plus Stripe fees. Federation deployments still pay card fees. |
| Where players book | Playmore app and web, plus a booking page embedded on your own website. | The venue's ClubSpark page or the ClubSpark Booker app; in the UK also LTA booking and the Play Tennis app. |
| Prepayment | Online prepayment can be required for every booking; split payment between players. | Online payments via Stripe; membership by online payment or direct debit. |
| Members and limits | Plans are sized by number of courts, not members. | Basic up to 150 members and 2 admins, Standard up to 500 and 10, Premium unlimited. |
| Coaching and competitions | Courses and camps, coach schedules, leagues, tournaments and open games. | Coaching courses with check-in and subscriptions; round-robin, knockout and matchplay competitions. |
| Access control | Door and court access after payment (Loxone integration in production at KS Zakręt). | SmartAccess gates and floodlights on Premium; LTA lists gates from about £4,500 plus yearly maintenance. |
Price: "free" for LTA venues, with fees
The LTA describes ClubSpark as free to LTA-registered venues, and Tennis NZ and Tennis Canada fund it for their clubs too. In all of these, card and transaction fees still apply — Tennis NZ says so explicitly, and Tennis Canada says the only cost passed to the club is transaction fees.
Venues outside those programmes pay £15, £30 or £75 a month on an annual contract, plus 1.4% + 5p or 1.1% per transaction on top of Stripe's own fees. Court booking itself starts on the £30 Standard plan; Basic covers membership, CRM, coaching and a website, and shows ads.
Gate and floodlight automation is hardware on top: the LTA lists entry gates at about £4,500 with roughly £380 a year in maintenance, and premium gates at about £6,100.
Members' club or pay-and-play?
ClubSpark grew up around federation-affiliated tennis clubs: membership, coaching programmes and club competitions. If annual membership is most of your income, that model fits.
Padel and squash venues earn most of their money per court hour. That is where Playmore puts its weight: every booking paid before the player arrives, passes and packages, open games that fill empty slots, and reporting on revenue per available court hour.
What users say
Players rate the ClubSpark Booker app well — about 4.8 from roughly 14,000 ratings in the UK App Store. The venue side has very few public reviews: Capterra UK shows 1.5 out of 5 from just two reviews, citing outages and transaction fees. Two reviews are not a verdict, so ask other clubs in your county how it works for them.
Switching
Paid ClubSpark plans run on 12-month contracts, so time the move to your renewal date. Export members and booking history before the switch, and if you stay LTA-registered, keep your venue details up to date with the LTA. We help with the import and setup during onboarding.
